Kenyan TIST Farmer Alice Wanjugu Ndiritu

Alice Wanjugu Ndiritu joined TIST in 2008 as part of the Gieterero Tree Planting Group in Gieterero Village, Kenya.  Her Small Group has grown over 700 trees, many of which she planted herself.  The different species include Grevillea Robusta, Cupressus Lusitanica, Vachellia xanthophloea, and Croton megalocarpus.

To maintain the trees, Alice practices sustainable harvesting through tree pruning, which provides timber for cooking and building.

Beyond tree planting, Alice also raises chickens and cows to feed her family and earn more income.

Alice has learned a lot from the TIST trainings.  For instance, by practicing Conservation Farming, a TIST Best Practice, she has increased her maize yield each year.

As Alice continues to participate in trainings alongside other Small Group members, they will discuss their learning and continue to develop Best Practices for their farms.
